Abstract

This exploratory study analyzes secondary data from the 2015 Atlanta Youth Count and Needs Assessment, a cross-sectional survey of 638 unhoused youth (ages 14–25) in Metro Atlanta, to map service-provider engagement. Guided by intersectionality and minority stress theory, descriptive, bivariate, and logistic models tested links between age, race, gender, LGBTQ identity, serious mental illness, homelessness history and duration, chosen-family bonds, and recent provider contact. Each additional year of age reduced engagement odds by 12.5%. Gay/lesbian youth were nearly four times likelier to report contact than heterosexual peers, whereas female and first-time homeless youth had lower odds. Prior homelessness and male identity predicted greater engagement. Findings expose unequal access to outreach and call for inclusive, affirming strategies that better reach younger, first-time, and female youth.
