Abstract

When reading Friedrich Nietzsche’s Apollo, Dionysus, and Prometheus in The Birth of Tragedy, some readers may overlook the masculinity encoded in his use of myths. However, by combining feminist critique with conceptual metaphor theory, a masculine interpretation emerges. With a focus on how patriarchal masculinity shapes the metaphors of struggle, agency, and identity, this work offers a new way to re-engage with Nietzsche as expressed through his mythic figures.
