The Digital Archive of the Heritage Preservation Program (HPP) is a compendium of student projects produced under the supervision of the HPP faculty from 1991 until the present. The Archive contains a variety of completed projects that document buildings and historic areas in and around Metropolitan Atlanta. The projects include Historic Structure Reports of historic or endangered buildings, Historic District Information Forms prepared for submission to the Georgia Historic Preservation Division for eventual National Register Designation, Design Guideline and Planning projects that are intended to assist communities and neighborhoods in making design decisions about Locally Designated Historic Districts and Historic Context studies that focus on a particular building type, period of development (developmental history) or particular community.
These documents embody a wide variety of buildings, neighborhoods and communities across Metro Atlanta. They demonstrate the body of work accomplished by the students of the Heritage Preservation Program and are here to be utilized by anyone seeking to research historic places in and around Atlanta.

These design guidelines act as general policies regarding structures, additions, new construction, and site work for the proposed Lithonia Historic District. Lithonia’s proposed guidelines have been drawn to include a commercial and residential historic districts. The guidelines would serve as reference to both those included within the proposed district and outside of it. Lithonia is also included in the Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area. The guidelines would act to preserve Lithonia’s historic character.

Prepared by the Spring 2014 Case Studies in Historic Preservation Class. This resource nominates the Locust Grove Historic District to establish formal recognition of the historic center of the city in its development as a “railroad strip” community in Henry County. The downtown historic district was designated in 2010, and the City of Locust Grove is a recent Certified Local Government in Georgia, providing a triple-pronged effort in utilizing Federal Incentive Tax Credits for historic preservation in Locust Grove.

Longview Subdivision 1958-1962

This form contains information about the Longview Subdivision, one of the few neighborhoods which represent mid twentieth century architectural styles to be nominated to the national register. The subdivision was created to cater to workers of new industrial centers within Doraville and along Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. This resource contains many primary sources, including contemporary photographs of the property, as well as various forms of maps, copies of original advertisements for the subdivision, and various documents and publications relating to the neighborhood itself.

Oakland Cemetery Comfort Station Buildings

This Historic Structure Report attempts to define the historical context and physical condition of the women's and men's comfort stations at Oakland Cemetery. The comfort stations were constructed in 1908, fifty-eight years after the opening of Oakland, in order to provide adequate public restroom facilities for the large crowds who visited the cemetery during its early history. A group effort has been made to research and document the history of the two comfort buildings, assess their current status, and make recommendations for treatment.

The resource was created to support the effort to preserve local neighborhoods, buildings, and landmarks by providing the historic context in which they were created.
