Abstract

This research examines the relationship between global agreements on climate change and greenhouse gas emissions. Panel data from the World Bank's global indicators and our World in Data (OWID) was utilized to conduct the study. The data comprises observations on 203 countries between 1990 and 2019. The analysis incorporated two prominent international climate change accords: the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement. The results reveal that the Kyoto Protocol had a significant impact on greenhouse gas emissions in the countries that signed it, whereas the Paris Agreement did not. These findings are clarified through the works of (Roberts 2015) and (Arrighi, Silver, and Ahmad 2002; Arrighi, Silver, and Brewer 2003; Karatasli et al. 2017) On shifting global power structures.
