Conversations about Black women and their practices of fandom in digital spaces have been largely ignored by fan studies scholars. The cultural significance of different types of media consumed by Black women impacts how they practice fandom. Using Morris Chestnut, an actor that I label Black famous, as an exemplar, I will analyze how Black women's fandom online has impacted the longevity of his 30-year career. Using textual analysis, this project will examine social media posts from Morris Chestnut’s fanbase on Twitter to illuminate the agency Black women exercise through digital fandom.
