Abstract
This research explores the reintegration challenges faced by African American men after incarceration, focusing on the relationship between socioeconomic status and recidivism. Using a narrative methodology, the study will examine how poverty influences their experiences with reintegration and the likelihood of re-incarceration. Five African American men who have been previously incarcerated will be interviewed, using convenience and snowball sampling methods. Semi-structured interviews, conducted in person or by phone, will gather participants' perspectives on how poverty impacts their incarceration, reintegration, and re-incarceration. The findings will offer valuable insights for policymakers, scholars, and advocates, contributing to criminal justice reform and supporting the reentry of formerly incarcerated African American men into society.
