Abstract

Youth experiencing homelessness are at risk of becoming chronically homeless adults. Youth commonly have experiences of childhood trauma, and often experience trauma while they are homeless. Much of the existing literature about youth homelessness concentrates on the needs and disadvantages of these young people. Using a positive youth development framework, this dissertation examines the ways in which future orientation are impacted by youth’s pasts, and impact risk factors for youth. Future orientation as pivotal aspect of resilience is a vital aspect to be examined to inform policies and practices that impact youth who experience homelessness.
