Abstract

This thesis looks at Beyoncé's Black Is King and the album The Lion King: The Gift, focusing on how their stories and creative choices might help empower Black youth. Both projects celebrate African and African American culture through powerful visuals and music, highlighting themes like identity, pride, and strength. The thesis also suggests that these works create space for real, meaningful storytelling that genuinely reflects the people behind it. By using visuals inspired by traditional African culture and blending different musical styles, these pieces can inspire pride and confidence in young Black audiences. With their relatable stories and the spirit of artistic collaboration, they encourage self-expression and the joy of reconnecting with one’s roots. In short, this thesis argues that Black Is King and The Lion King: The Gift can be powerful tools for helping young people reclaim their identity and sense of purpose.
