Abstract

This thesis reconsiders the use and application of the concept of metalepsis, a term mainly used in narratology to describe the transgressions of ontological levels. Instead of focusing on the narrative aspect, the thesis attempts to apply the concept to the discontinuous visual changes prevalent in animation, mapping out several different types in which it can function.
